Alopecia Awareness

Redefining the Standard of Beauty

Hair is often a standard of beauty and femininity. And even thought there are 147 milion people worldwide who have the condition, there is still very little visibility out there. The experience of alopecia must be one that is shared.

What is Alopecia?

Alopecia is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the hair follicles causing patchy hair loss, total hair loss on one’s scalp or complete hair loss all over the body. Alopecia does not discriminate.

  • Alopecia affects men and women, children and adults.
  • Approximately 6.8 million people in the United States and 147 million worldwide have or will develop alopecia at some point in their lives.
  • There is no cure for alopecia.

Many people know or prioritize alopecia- they lose their sense of identity, social being.
